Three Junior GB Athletes Set For First ISU Junior Grand Prix Series Event

The ISU Junior Grand Prix gets underway tomorrow with British representation in the Ice Dance and men’s competition.

Courchevel, France, will play host to the opening competition of the seven-event series.

Skating starts on 19th August with both the men’s and women’s short programs. The rhythm dance and women's free skate will take place on 20th August before the men’s free skate and free dance conclude the event on Saturday 21st.

Vasilisa Ahramenka and Alessio Surenkov-Gultchev will represent GB in Ice Dance with Joseph Zakipour the male selection. Ahramenka and Surnko-Gultchev will be making their Junior Grand Prix debut.

Nottingham based Zakipour competed at the Gdansk Junior Grand Prix 2019, finishing 23rd. He came third in the junior men’s category at the British Championships in 2020, missing out on a second-place spot by just 1.67 points.

The ISU Junior Grand Prix competition sees the world’s best up and coming skaters challenge at a range of international events.

The 24th edition of the series returns after a one-year postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Corchevel (France), Kosice (Slovakia), Krasnoyarsk (Russia), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Gdansk (Poland) and Linz (Austria) will all host some of the most exciting young skaters from across the globe.

The ISU Council is set to decide the qualifying criteria for the final in Osaka, Japan, as the series develops.

All of the action will be streamed on the ISU Youtube channel.
