Three debutants ready for World Short Track Championships

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

Three British Short Track Speed Skaters are set to make their World Short Track Speed Skating Championships debut in Montreal, Canada tomorrow.

Brothers Niall and Ethan Treacy and Holly Hoyland will represent GB in each of the 500m, 1000m and 1500m at the Maurice Richard Arena. The Championships had been due to take place on 18th March but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The young and exciting trio of skaters are set to race in qualifying on Friday 8th.

The qualification rounds for all three distances are then followed by the finals on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th.

Niall comes into the Championships off the back of a season in which he came 4th in a World Cup A-Final and made his Olympic debut. Ethan told the International Skating Union website that it “would be a dream to get to finals and help each other (brother Niall) out”.

Each day will be broadcast on the ISU YouTube channel with the first race on Friday scheduled to start at 15:00 (BST).
