Junior Grand Prix Bronze Medal “A Bit of a Blur” For Ed Appleby

Edward Appleby has said that winning bronze at the Junior Grand Prix in Courchevel has been a “bit of a blur”.

Speaking after becoming the first Junior Grand Prix medallist for GB in 19 years he said: “Nothing has fully sunk in yet. From the interview with Ted Barton to picking up the medal off the table and placing it around my neck – it’s all a bit of a blur.”

His short program was awarded 63.23, second best in the competition behind Canada’s Wesley Chiu.

His free skate scored 119.18, leaving him with a total score of 182.41. That was comfortably enough to win a bronze medal and end a long wait for a GB Junior Grand Prix medal.

The 16-year-old added: “One thing I do remember clearly is the great team spirit and support – and equally all the messages that came in after the short program.

“It all makes such a difference – so thank you to everyone and let’s keep that going for all Team GB.”

Jenna McCorkell was the last figure skater to win a JGP medal for Great Britain, also managing a third placed finish in 2002.

Also competing at the second JGP in Courchevel were Ice Dance couple Natalia Pallu-Neves and Jayin Panesar. They finished 13th with a combined score of 99.18.
